A huge and stunning lake about 50km to the west of Chimoio. There are some great view spots further inland from the dam that have fantastic panoramic views of the dam and lush surroundings. Accommodation is available at the dam and you can take a canoe out and spot crocodiles that inhabit the lake. A drive down to the Dam wall is also a spectacular site!
The Chicamba dam wall was completed in 1968 on the Revué river (the major tributary of the Buzi river) before Mozambican independence to provide hydro-electric power, with the lake filling for the first time in the early 1970’s. The full capacity of the lake which has a surface area of approximately 160 square km, is two billion cubic meters. Chicamba has lots of structure: inlets, coves, river lines, granite koppies, standing timber, grassy shorelines.
